[ he knows they're supposed to be reassuring, those words, and in some ways, they are. but a lot of it isn't because it's just a constant thing in the back of his head. what if he'd made it all up? what if none of it was true, and he'd actually died with them back in altissia? what if, what if, what if. prompto doesn't know what to do or how to handle it, but he definitely thinks noct shouldn't worry about him like that. ]

[ because he needs a second to get all his thoughts together so it doesn't feel like something's wrong. ]

[Too late, because he's already grabbing his lantern and leaving their tiny apartment. If nothing else, they'll meet on the way.

But he's not just going to leave this alone and let it be swept back under the rug. Because he knows what's going to happen. Prompto's going to come back and act like everything is fine. Like the little ray of sunshine he tries so hard to be, no matter what's bothering him. And Noctis doesn't want that.]

[ and then there's this. of course noct wouldn't just leave it alone because... well, that's not who he is. prompto still isn't used to all of this, and it's like trying to remember how to be with him all over again, frowning at his tablet before sighing and waiting outside the building where their apartment is. ]

[ because he's trying to liven it up a little so it doesn't feel as awkward as it's starting to get. ]

[Noctis doesn't bother actually responding - mostly because he barely has time to read the message before he's pushing the door open, holding up his lantern to search out Prompto in the dark.

And the second he spots him he's moving, closing the expanse that existed between them, remembering at the last second to place his lantern on the ground instead of trying to hold onto it.

Then he's hugging Prompto. Arms thrown around his neck and drawing him in tight.]

You know you can talk to me, right?

[ it's a good thing he's paying attention because he has about five seconds before noct is hugging him, and he gets his lantern out of his hand just before that, arms out like he doesn't know what to do with them. eventually, though, he relaxes and returns the hug, gently pressing his palms against noct's back to hold him there. this had honestly been the first thing he'd wanted to do when he'd seen him again. ]

Yeah, I know. [ his voice is quiet. ] And I do. I mean, there's not really a whole lot I haven't told you.

[ except some of the most obvious things, but that's neither here nor there right now. ]

[Prompto could have. Honestly, there were very few things that Noctis would ever actually deny him, and the affection that they both so rarely got and apparently both craved wasn't one of them. It only felt natural to be this way with Prompto, but. Maybe he had taken it too far without ever considering that this was no longer normal for both of them.]

Yeah, I'm having a hard time believing you bud.

[It wasn't in anyway an accusation - just that he knew better. That he hadn't been told everything. And most of what he hadn't was probably pretty important.]
