[ way to kick his anxiety up, ignis. ]

[ because he's curious and scared and a thousand other emotions, he may (or may not) have run all the way there. at least he gets there in enough time to make it look like he hadn't rushed, pacing a little and checking the people that wander in for ignis. ]

[Ignis had been pacing, so when Prompto runs up, he's a bit surprised. He walks up to Prompto, shaking his head.]

You didn't need to run...

[ he shrugs a little. go is very much his default state, so he doesn't mind. ]

I like doing it, so... [ he chews at his bottom lip. ] What's up?

[Ignis smiles gently and motions to a bench.]

Let's sit, shall we?

[ well, now he's even more nervous. he isn't sure what's going on, and the longer ignis delays mentioning the subject, the harder he finds it to keep his nerves in check. ]

Sure... [ he plops down on the bench, fingers idly drumming against his knee. ] Everything's okay, right?

[Ignis sits down and takes a deep breath, thinking about his words.]

A few weeks about... I don't know if Noct told you... I asked him to enter a permenant contract with me.

[ prompto gives ignis an almost skeptical look. this is what he wanted to talk about? ]

I mean, he didn't say anything, but... aren't you guys already in one? That's not weird. [ and he means it. ignis has always looked after noct, and he knows that's part of the reason. anything else... well, that wasn't any of his business. he relaxes a little where he sits before a thought comes to him. ] Does he wanna be with someone else?

Well, he said yes but we were in a normal contract before... [Ignis folds his hands in his lap. Noct has other people he likes, just as Ignis does. That doesn't bother him.] I believe he's happy being in a contract with me... But he's also worried. About me.

[ his face scrunches a bit, thinking it over. ]

So what's the difference between that and a permanent one then? [ he honestly didn't know that was a thing. ] And of course he's worried about you, Iggy. I think we're all worried about each other being in a place like this. That's not weird either.

A permanent one is more akin to marriage, honestly. [Ignis shakes his head.] He's not worried for me here, in this place. He's worried about back home. The consequences of allowing myself this happiness.

[ there's a whole lot to unpack there, and he's thinking about marriage suddenly in an entirely different capacity when ignis says the other thing. his mind can only keep up with so much, so he tucks his hands between his knees and tries to remember to breathe. for some reason, he's really scared. ]

What about back home? [ even his voice sounds weird asking that question. ]

[Ignis looks at Prompto, and he feels sick. Does Prompto not know? He thought that maybe Noct had told him, but now he's not so sure.]

About the prophecy...He didn't tell you?

[ well... now he definitely has a reason to be nervous. of course he hadn't heard of anything like that. prompto shakes his head. ]

He hasn't said anything about that. I – [ he shifts uncomfortable. ] It's that serious, huh?

[Ignis simply nods.]

It's his story to tell. Partly. I do know he's also worried because... Soon after the time I was grabbed to come here... I go blind.

[ it makes him worry even more because that means he's going to have to ask noct about it, but the rest... prompto stands up from where he sits, staring at ignis with surprise. ]

Like you can't see anymore? [ duh, prompto. that's what blind means. ] How? Why? I thought everything was okay...

When I use the ring of Lucis... That is the price I pay to protect Noct.

[Ignis thinks that Prompto deserves to know everything. He's important to them, but he knows how hard it is to say these things. ]

Please, don't hate Noct. He... He just doesn't want to make anyone sad. Anything he's withheld from you is because of a misguided notion that he's protecting you.

[ he feels like he's been blindsided with far too much information, and it's causing him to panic a little, curling his fingers into fists as he tries to process what ignis is telling him. bad things happen and then... what? he hates not knowing, but in that same vein, he's also terrified of learning the truth. ]

I don't get it. I mean, I know there's some stuff that happens, but... [ he fidgets where he stands. ] I dunno. It doesn't make any sense.

When I was taken from home, I was in the middle of trying to save Noct from Ardyn. The ring was the only way I could think to do it. I should have paid with my life, but the ring will only take my sight.

[Ignis places a hand on Prompto's arm.]

You should talk to him. You deserve to know.

[ he wants to ask why. why them, why noct. why did things have to be this way? but there are too many questions, and he knows, despite ignis being the smartest out of all of them, that he wouldn't have the answers if he asked. it just creates this well of anxiety in his chest; even the touch to his arm doesn't do anything to negate it. ]

Yeah. [ prompto can't seem to catch his breath, but he does his best to ignore that too. he'd been so wrapped up in duplicity that he'd forgotten about how little he hadn't known from back home. ] I guess I should, but... [ he takes a step back in an attempt to collect himself. ] Is that the only thing he's worried about happening? We can't change that, right? It's something that's gonna happen no matter what we do?

No, that isn't the only thing, but it wouldn't be right if I said it. Prompto... I'm sorry.

[Ignis feels terrible. He never seems to have good moments with Prompto. He wishes it was different.]

[ there's something about that apology that causes him to break a little, and prompto forces himself to shake his head, to smile enough in an attempt to reassure ignis that he's okay. ]

It's cool, I get it. [ not really, but he's going to fake it so that ignis doesn't worry. ] But I should, um. I think I should go unless you wanted to talk about something else? [ he hopes not because he needs some time to figure this out before he freaks out right there over seemingly nothing. ]

[Ignis knows when he's being lied to, but he doesn't have the right to call. Prompto out on it. He doesn't know what else to say. He knows, hopes, Prompto will talk to Noct, because that is who Prompto is really worried about.]

No...no, I suppose not.

[His voices cracks and he hates it. He's good enough at fighting back tears, but sometimes his voice betrays him.]

I'm sorry I called you out here to tell you this. I just thought you deserved to know.
