If this guy wants to live in a room close to him, Robby's not going to think twice. The rooms immediate to his are both already occupied, but by the power of 'we say so' checking either of the ones next to them leads to--surprise! An available room. ]
You can have a fun time shopping around Dead City for art to hang on the walls later, [ Robby unhelpfully provides, as if anything that the city has to offer will actually make the apartment look any better. But while it's simple, it at least has the essentials: a living space, kitchen area, doors leading to potential bathrooms and bedrooms.
If they're going in, already in, Robby's doing the same thing regardless, and placing the bag he's carrying down on the first countertop he finds. ]
You ever lived in a place like this where you're from?
[ Robby remembers he was on a road trip, but he had a life (surely) before that. Was he an apartment guy, or house guy? ]
[ he's sure they'd talked about it before. or robby had mentioned it, and prompto had immediately glued himself to the idea of it. because they'd be sort of close and nearby in case something happened, which means they would both have someone to rely on. so, he tries all the doors until one pops open, and they're inside looking at a pretty empty (but normal) apartment.
there's an amused sound at robby's comment about decorating. ]
Dead City? Is that official or unofficial? [ because he's not so sure he'd seen any signs telling them where they are. ] Um...
[ he makes a turn of the empty living room. ]
Not me, but my best bud back home had a place like this. I crashed with him all the time since my foster parents were never home much. [ prompto shrugs a little. ] What about you?
[ Maybe not dead dead--it's more dormant, grey, unnerving in a different kind of way (and who knew somewhere could be a different unnerving from dead), but it's close enough. At least Robby's answer is casual enough to give away it's nothing meaningful. Just something said in the moment.
As for apartments- ]
Lived in them with my mom. --And dad. [ Which he has to remember to add after a beat, but he gives a tiny smile after. ] No landlord means you're getting the best experience. The one upside.
[ Can a guy like Prompto appreciate such a point? Robby leans his elbows back against the counter. ]
[ he nods a little at that, clearly picking up on the difference. honestly, prompto would have probably taken to calling it that on his own if given the chance. so, it's good that someone else beat him to it. ]
You think so? [ prompto hums, unsure how to really feel about living in a place all to himself. he'd done it so often as a kid, but after being friends with noct for so long... ] I mean, stuff's gonna break eventually, isn't it? That's what landlords are supposed to do? Fix things?
[ there's a pause as he moves around and leans on an opposite counter to look at robby. ]
I guess you could just pick up and move any time you wanted though, so maybe it doesn't even matter. [ and he doesn't even have that many skills that would pay the rent anyhow. ]
[ There's the obvious points he can make - that sure, landlords are supposed to do that, but who's going to make them? and not every bad experience has been down to the landlords, in Robby's life, but still; they're not exactly paid to be sympathetic - but it seems pointless to get into as Prompto refocuses on their current situation. ]
Who knows? Maybe everything in here will fix itself. [ Not that Robby's particularly keen to find out, but, since they're both standing here with obviously not much better to do, he looks back to pat at one of the bags brought along. ]

[ it'd be cool if everything fixed itself, but then again, it'd also be super weird. prompto isn't sure he's ready for something like that just yet. ]

[ he smiles, meaning it as a joke, and in an attempt to be normal about the situation, he's already moved to start taking some things out of the bag. ] The road trip? It basically started out as a – what do you call it? – bachelor's party? I dunno. My best friend was heading off to get married, and a few of us went with him.
[ definitely the beginning plot of the hangover that veered sharply off course as soon as their ride broke down in the middle of the desert. ]
